86 4 runner trany
What do you guys think about the automatic trany in a 86 4 runner? I know the 5 speed is the way to go but just wanted to know if there was any major issues with this automatic transmission. Also how hard would it be to convert it to a 5 speed? What would be needed?

the auto is fine. I like mine a lot. Get it geared properly for the tire size you are running and you won't have any issues.
As for the swap... you need transmission, transfer case, clutch assembly, flywheel, clutch pedal, new master cylinder(I think). The ECU can be used but you have to override the neutral safety switch.
This is just the basics.

for the auto -
33" 5.29
35" 5.71
People will tell you that 5.71's are weak but it comes down to the setup. Read up on that info here.
