86 22r Carb Issues

Hi everybody, I'm new to the forum. I've had a 1986 Xtracab for about six months and I'm getting ready to throw in the towel on this issue. Any help would be appreciated!!

When I first bought the truck, it ran and drove home great, but I soon started having issues with it idling. The float bowl was filling up causing the truck to run rough (if at all). I replaced te needle and seat and this fixed it temporarily. After the problem ocurred again I had it rebuilt by the local Toyota guru. While the truck was at the shop, he told me so much fuel had made it's way into the crankcase that it had spun a bearing. After a few months, I finally had the dough to put a new motor in, and now, rebuilt carb and all, the problem is back.

Including the guru, myself and another tech, the needle and seat have been replaced or cleaned up at least a dozen times. The problem always comes back. Doesent matter if the truck is hot or cold. I'm getting ready to blow some air through the return line right now but I thought I might ask for some help/advise as well.

Thanks!!

Have you installed a fuel pressure regulator and a inline fuel filter at the carb, that might help your problem, if it doesn't I would look into another carb maybe a weber if its more than a daily driver

Weber 32/36 for daily driving/mileage...The Aisins can be tricky even after rebuild. That's what I learned with mine

Thanks for the help guys. Blowing out the return seems to have worked for now.

I pulled the ruturn at the pump and at the filter, blew compressed air from the filter end. After I removed the air nozzle fuel started gushing out of the line. I'm not a 100% on the function of the vent canister that the return runs through, but I suspect something was clogged in there. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I've ordered an in line regulator to keep pressure in check and as for the Weber, I have wanted one since I first got my truck but I live in California and can't find a legal carb. Local guy said they quit making them. Hearing all the stories about how great they are gets me closer and closer to doing it anyway!
