1985 22RE hard to start when hot - Common Problem?

Hello all,

I just bought a 1985 4x4 pickup, 22RE engine. I love it, except for one problem. The engine is hard to start when the engine is hot, and it has been shut off for anywhere between 2 minutes to 60 minutes. In that 2-60 minute window, it cranks just fine, but it idles very rough for a few seconds and then dies. I have to give it gas to get it to idle at about 1500 rpm for 30 seconds, and then it idles smoothly. Again, this only happens when the engine is hot and it has been shut off for more than 2 minutes.

When it is cold, it starts right up.
If I start it within 2 minutes after shutdown, it starts right up.

Is this a common problem with the 22RE, hopefully with a common fix?
Or is this an isolated incident, and I need to get a repair manual and start trouble shooting?

Thanks,

Big O

My guess is start with checking the TPS (throttle position sensor) when it is hot and should be hard to start. Next on the list would be a coolant temp sensor by the thermostat which may not be telling the ECU (Engine Control Unit) that the truck is hot (therefore screwing with the fuel mixture).
