tire choices for 04 4runner
#22
265/65/17 vs 265/70/17
Hey guys, I am new here, but I have to comment on this tire issue. I just purchased a 2003 4Runner. The mileage is 85k. The original tires were on the truck. I manage a Big O Tires in Indiana and chose to go with the 265/70/17 size tire. I typically keep on the road so I chose the Nitto Crosstek. I can not say enough about this tire. Thus truck has the X-REAS suspension system and the ride is superb already, but the addition of these tires was just the cat's meow. What a great ride with no noise! There is no rubbing even at a hard turn. The speedo is 2 mph off. At 65 I am actually traveling 67, checked with a policeman friends radar gun. At 70, it's 72.5. The gas mileage had actually gone up by 1 mile to the gallon on the highway, gone down .5 in town. Yes, I actually checked and re-checked. Obviously, this is my truck, and my driving habits. I have a heavy right foot and can pull 19.5 on the highway. (V8 4.7). If you primarily use your Runner on road, I highly recommend the Nitto Crosstek, you WILL be a happy camper. Just thought I'd lend some thoughts on this subject. BTW, Nitto builds their tires to the larger size of spec and the fit great! Thanks for your time.
