Organizing a Double Cab Tacoma

Well guys...as many of you probably know, I am OCD about everything related to my vehicles. One of the biggest things is, organization.

I want to see what and how you store your stuff in your Double Cab's.

I love the amount of storage space these things have but I'm having a hard time figuring out where to put everything.

Right now (I will post pics later) this is how I have it set-up:

Glove box - Portfolio with the manual, maintenance guide, registration, insurance card and then my tire gauge
Center console - Check book (only when I think I'll need it)
Storage pocket in front of your right knee below the air vent - Garage door opener
Behind driver side rear seat - Maglite (standing upright in holder), First aid kit next to it and the bottom is lined with a few microfiber towels
Behind passenger side rear seat - Jumper cables
Truck bed pockets - Nothing yet

One main question I have is, has anybody come up with a way to make the Maglites fit a little bit more snug in the holders they provide? Mine is a little loose and it will sometimes make a little noise.

Pics would be best...I will get some posted this weekend!

Thanks, later,

Fink

-When he says title I am thinking he is referring to the registration (I hope)
-The little pockets above the Fenderwells are about worthless in my opinion. Never seem to keep anything in there. The little storage boxes are good to keep bungee cords and stuff like that in them, keep in mind that in the stock state they will allow dust etc to enter the compartment.
-For your maglight, the plastic mag light clips are a POS, get a set of quickfist clamps, you can get a set of 2 for about $10:
http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/ind...category/id/3/
I have got several. I have got the big ones (need to install) for my fire extinguishers.
-I keep my hitch ball, clevis, tow rope and cheap air compressor under the back seat with the stock jack stuff.
-First Aid kit, jumper cables, paper towels, tarp behind the back seat..

One thing I did with some quick fist clamps in the back:

Check book and title in your car is a BAD idea if anyone were to break into it or steal it.

Me, I store my stuff in my truck box, the glove box holds the important stuff and my armest has somejunk in it.

Yes, I meant registration.

I LOVE Quick Fist clamps but I haven't found anywhere I feel comfortable drilling holes to mount them yet. I have a bunch (at least two sets) of the smaller ones for the Maglites.

Check book doesn't stay in there for a long period of time, just when I think I'll need it...it's mainly a back-up in case my debit card doesn't work for some reason.

I'd love to get a tool box for the back but I think that would make the bed TOO short. I love the size of it now but with the truck box back there I don't know that my 4wheeler would fit.

Any other organizing ideas would be awesome, thanks!

I know there are more double cab owners out there!!

How do you guys organize your stuff? Where have you mounted things like fire extinguishers, flashlights, etc...?

I dont really see much of a point of mounting things. I have a small bag in the backseat with some basic stuff like flashlights n such.

I normally carry a backpack with all of my gear like a spare shirt, flashlight, phone etc. Plus mounting crap in the cab is a bad idea in a wreck and just plain ugly IMO.

+1 for the organizer bag.
In the rear seat on my Tundra (before that the 4Runner, before that the Range Rover) I have a hard-sided contractors bag from Lowes that has a ton of pockets. In mine I hold a big jug of water, Surefire, GPS, batteries, med kit, a few powerbars and misc other random crap. It was only like 20 bucks and really comes in handy for the "floating" stuff that just accumulates.

deflecta shield makes nice narrow tool box:

As far as mounting things in a cab--if the mounts are secure it is better than having a heavy bag flying around in an accident..

Not sure what kind of room you have behind your rear most seats, but there is another item, but I forget the name.
They are made out of vinyl, and they attach to the rear wall with screws or pop rivets, and they have many pockets in them.

My X wife actually copied a design and sawed one up for me, and I ran in in my '79 Toyota.
It held a lot.

For holding your insurance and reg papers, I have a cool one that mounts to the sun visor with Velcro strips.
Not sure of the brand, but if I get time I will look it up if I take it out if the cab.

I like it so much I bought another one for the FJ.
The one I took out of the 4RUnner I had trimmed off the excess Velcro, and what remained would not fit the bigger FJ visors.
Schucks Auto Supply has them.

Ahhh, found it.
You may have to enter your Zip code for a cookie to view it.
Like I mentioned, my insurance card is in it, and my wallet as well (the card) reg papers, YotaTech cards to hand out, and more.

I just installed a hard tonneau and a tail gate lock. I have a small Knack tool box locked to the floor by the cab, otherwise I have a similar setup to those listed above for storage.

Those are all great ideas!! The thing I love about the DC Tacoma's is they have so many little pockets and cubby holes to put stuff in.

I really just wish the Maglite holder was a little bit more a snug fit...it wiggles a little bit as it is but it's not bad at all.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm mainly interested in how people are organizing things while utilizing the existing storage room that Toyota has provided us with. But all of those are awesome and I'll probably end up using several of them.

Thanks again,

Fink

It is locked in a canopy and a popalock. If they really want anything in a truck, they will get to it.

Not much to add here; I mostly subscribe to the "bag of gear" that sits in my back seat. I use the storage behind and under the seats for hi-lift base, tow strap, tree saver and various recover equipment. Maps and trail books are behind the seats, CB is in the center console (sometimes), and various CD's and other junk.

The bulky stuff stays in the truck bed.

I pulled the plastic panels from behind the seats and went at them with a dremmel to create more storage area.
