OME 4Runner lift & email from ARB re: 884's or 885's

Hey everyone and thanks for the help on my 07 4Runner V8 LTD Old Man Emu lift.

I ordered OME 884's and the N141S struts for the front and the OME 895 and N141 shocks for the rear. After more research I realized the agreement here was that the 885's were right for a stock V8 without winch or bar. I went out and bought 885's and put the 884's up for sale. Then I got the following email from ARB USA:

The springs and shocks you have received are appropriate for your application. The OME884 springs will provide a bit more lift in the front than the 883, but with the same spring rate. The result when combined with the OME895 coils should be a truck that sits very near level front to rear without a great deal of rake. The OME885 coils are inappropriate for your truck as that coil is designed for a vehicle fitted with a Bullbar and winch combination. Without that weight the front end would likely be overlifted resulting in possible issues with alignment and "topping out" of the front struts. I believe you and I spoke about the different options on your truck at some point, do you recall who else you may have spoken too, particularly who suggested the OME 885 coils for the front end?

Best Regards,

Any opinions on the 884/885 debate?

Many thanks.

I can't speak specifically about 4Runners, but those same front springs apply to the 05+ Tacomas. Folks that were lifting Tacomas early on used the 884's, but then there were quite a few reports of "sagging issues." (I quote this since ARB actually lists the lift at something like 1.75" - 2", but the springs usually start closer to 2.5" of lift). From what I've seen lately, very few folks are going with the 884's, and instead are going with 885's with a stock front end, and 886's for front ends with a bumper and winch. I had the 885's originally, and now run the 886's with my ARB/Warn combo.

So all that being said, I'd be hard-pressed to argue with the good folks over at ARB versus random postings on the internet, unless you view the source(s) here as reliable and proven.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually, I get the feeling that the good folks here have some good experience and that's what's hanging me up. I'd like to hear a few more people comment on this issue before I go with ARB's latest. I'm installing tomorrow morning!
