Odd burning rubber smell in RR wheel well on 4th gen
I have a faint odor of burning rubber in the right rear wheel well on my 4th gen 4Runner after driving.
I cannot find any source for the smell. Nothing is on the exhaust, the tire is not rubbing and there is nothing looking melted or charred.
Anyone else notice this on their truck?

It's not unusual to smell odd things like that. Is it possible that you picked up something on your exhaust (the exhaust on my '00 runs right behind the RR wheel well) that you're smelling? How new is your rig? It could be some of the original coatings burning off combined with winter road crud. I'd just keep a watch on it to see if it continues or gets worse.

When my 4th Gen was fairly new it had some odd buning smells, more so than othe new cars I had. You might want to check the park brake, but that will smell more like brake pads.
Have you had anything done to it lately, service exhaust, repair???
How many miles do you have on it?

Thanks for the help
No work on the truck, no heavy driving, the brakes are not hot
But I did do a tire rotation and the smell changed with a new tire in the spot. It’s not gone, just different. I think it may just be normal tire smell and the fact that the exhaust runs near the tire, it flashes more of the aroma off. If I discover anything more concrete, I will post it.
Thanks for all the input.
