lifted 4th gen alignment

i just fabbed up a basic 3 inch lift on my 2004 4runner. i extended the coilover by 1.5 inches. it leveled up just as i wanted. now the bottom of the fenders are both 35 3/4".
i took it into the the alignment shop on friday, and they said that it was gonna take more time than they had that afternoon. this isn't a big deal, but they brought something to my attention that was a bit of a surprise. it seems that as you increase the ride height, the top of the tire leans out. this is much different that most trucks. usually as trucks are lifted the top of the tire tends to lean inward. if they are lifted too much they will need a longer upper a arm. but it seems that my 4runner would actually need a longer lower arm. i was wondering what others are doing to correct the alignment problem once the adjustment runs out of room.

This is what happens when IFS is lifted Camber becomes positive \ / and Toe turns in. There is more than enough adjustment in the control arm camber adjusters for your lift. My 4th gen has a 3" lift and was 3.64+ on the camber. Toe was about 1.75.

Alignment shop can do it no problem, if they give you trouble, take it somewhere else.

how about some pics?

with only 3" of lift, you shouldn't hae a problem ... it'll take awhile to align it, even if you take it to a toyota dealership ... but they will get it re-aligned into the correct range.

pics on the way. i didn't think anyone would want to see them. i am so happy with the way it looks. it is dark now, but i will snap a couple tommorow. now i am thinking of tire choices. i originally wanted 285x75x16's. on the stock rims but am not sure now. it may be wiser to stay with a 265x75 due to the narrow stock rims. i am also thinking of maybe biting the bullet and getting some nice aftermarket rims. i think if i was to break open the ole piggy i was thinking of going to 17's. and what is the consensus on tire size.

if u can stay 16's, then stay 16's as you have a great tire selection and prices are cheaper. plus if you plan to offroad, that's more sidewall protection

good luck!

If you get the 285/75/16 you will need to do sme trimming to get them in. 33" would be a nice size. Also the stock 16" wheels are only 7J wide so the 285 wont work, you need 7.5 or 8 wide wheels fro them to work. As GT said stick to 16" wheels they offer you more of a tire selection and also bigger sidewalls (read air down for offroad).

There is a big selection for tires but seems the popular choices are:
MTs:
Goodyear MTR
Firestone destination MTs

ATs
Bridgestone Revos (can only get 33" with 16" wheels)
BFG AT KOs

My choice would be between the Revo if you want to maintain more on road performance or the MTR for more offroad performance.

well i definitely don't want anything aggressive. i have a rock crawler for that. i guess i am going to end up sticking with the stock rims for now. i think i have at least 10k left on these tires. that gives me a while to ponder the options. hey jima what elementary school did you go to? i lived in fremont for a short time, and went to grimmer elementary.
