4th gen roof rack question

As most of you know, I have the Yakima Megawarrior with extension on the stock rails. My question is ... would there be any benefit/point to removing the entire stock roof railing system and replacing it with some Yakima raingutter mounts?

I love the basket, but I know the factory rails can't hold as much weight as the Yakima crossbars can ... and I also wish the rack was a bit lower/closer to the roof.

Would there be any point to doing this or any major drawbacks?

is it megawarrior or loadwarrior? yeah get rid of the factory rack, they look like minivan racks - whimpy lookin. i hope they have new racks on the '06. the only factory racks that looks decent are the ones on the new pathfinder, have you seen them? big racks tend to draw my attention quite often.

it's the megawarrior (with extension = 74" x 48" x 6.5").

big racks draw your attention often? are we still talking about roof racks?

i can stand up there on my rack even on the factory rails, but it does worry me, so i was definitely thinking of replacing the entire setup with something from yakima altogether.

I have acrophobia so i never tested my rack by standing on it but i'm sure the factory r/r is plenty ridgid enough to support an average female like yourself (weight-wise i mean ) but if you're worried....well, do it. if nothing else it will look better too. If you need help, i'm quite handy when it comes to racks.

Well, for awhile I was running my spare up there, so I had to stand up there in order to pull the tire up and secure it. While I was up there, it definitely felt strong enough, but the weight limit for the factory railing is something like 100lbs.

I think I will look into the aftermarket rack rails. I'm not sure off the top of my head what there is to attach it to, so I'll have to remove the basket, and the stock rack system. I assume it's a raingutter?

Thanks for your help!

can you not use the yakima control towers on your factory tracks? That is what I did on my 3rd gen., looks much better.

I have no idea. I wanted to just take all the factory crap off. It's plastic-y and cheap looking.

If you can use the factory tracks, that would be much better in my opinion than the raingutters that mount inside the door frame and can discolor paint if left on long enough.
