I'd like to do this and also wire a push button into the starter so you have to flip the fuel pump on and push the button while cranking to start.

Put 3 switches on your dash and have them in sync, for example
the first switch would ground out the distributor, and #2 and 3 would have to be lined together to power the distributor. And then put another under the dash for the power to the starter, plus put a battery shut off switch in your glovebox like the one pictured in page 1. So you would have to key up the batt switch in the glove box, thurn of the dist ground switch and line up the 2 dist power switches, and then turn on the starter switch. Easier said than done.

HEY im interested in that cole herss switch spdt means single pole double throw but i can read the part # off the box i want to have mine set so the horns come on pos 1 pos 2 it starts pos 3 it cuts power to the fuel pump thats what ur doing right????

Not to be a prick but I dont think this is correct.. I think you want to look in the passenger side. The COR (fuel pump relay) is above the speaker on the passenger side. Find the blue wire there coming from the COR. You;ll know its the COR because it will say Circuit Opening Relay and click when you turn on the key. Easiest to remove the glove box to get to it but you could find the wire running down the side sill panel as well.


This is it. Just find it.


It was bolted in the empty hole next to the heater fuse


I could be wrong though.

Maybe you are grabbing the clutch cancel wire before the COR I guess essentially doing the same thing. Thats probably a B/W wire.

it might be diffrent on my taco but i really thought my pick up was the same i know my taco is on drivers side and black and white i know beacuse i just installed fuel cut switch

Ya on a taco the COR is on the bottom of the interior drivers side fuse panel. Not so on the 91 model. The pic is from my 92

ok so your saying the blue wire is the fuel pump wire? how do i hook this up to my switch? how do i get the horn to work in the off position too? to have the horn sound when i turn the ignition and the switch in the off position how do i wire in that? kinda confusing??? thanks guys

I dont understand what you are trying to do with the horn.

To wire your switch you are going to need a relay, or at least i would use one.

ok well i dont get the point of the relay? i was just going to put the switch in between the wire and thats it. well the idea was that when the switch is off the pump wouldnt work and when the ingnition was turned on the horn would sound. not sure how to do it but i liked the idea. found the COR but i just havent had time to get at it yet. going to try this weekend.

the purpose of the relay is that your switch maynot be able to handle to current flow that the pump would draw. By using a relay you are just using the switch to engage the relay and not handle any current flow by the pump. That now flows through the relay instead,

ok makes sence. my switch is rated for 25 amps thats all i know.

it depends on which wire to the COR you are interrupting. if its the main then yeah, you will need a relay, but if its just the 12v that flips the relay on, a switch inline is probably fine.

So I tried this today. Didn't work. Then I tried to learn some things about relays, and I'll get it right tomorrow. First off, why are you putting in a switch to the ground of your 2nd relay? You might as well just switch the ground on the COR right?

But if you're putting in a 2nd relay, why not just put that relay between the switch and the pump on the power line?

I'll keep you guys posted.. got a lot of useful info off this site, but this is getting weird.

even without a switch, this wiring scheme did not work. I couldn't tell you why, but it didn't trip the new relay at all.

So I put the switch between COR and the new relay and grounded the circuit instead of putting the switch there. works great. 92 v6 blue wire from the COR. that is all i know!!

oh and btw the generic 5 prong relay from autozone didn't work either, it switched the pump on and off like a flasher when i had the switch turned on. used a bosch and it works great.

from the research i did, there are theoretically a lot of "correct" ways to do this, but i'm just sharing what actually worked, and what did not work.

What if someone made a lock that locks it in 5th gear? But then they cam probably saw through it easily. Just an idea
