VAF help

hi: I have a code 31 VAF. I checked it with a OHM meter and I get nothing at e2 and tha terminals. also e2 and vb only reads 180 ohms. readings opening and closing the gate are good but when you hold the gate open the reading fluctuates 300 to 600 ohms. my question is, the wrecker doesn't have a VAF of a 89 to 95 22RE (my truck is 93 4x4 with a 22RE), but does have some of 84 to 88 22RE, will the VAF off a 84 to 88 work on my truck. also talked to Toyota and over a $1000 for a VAF new here in Canada. Thanks

just looked over abe's books and 31 is an 'open on E2 and VC or short between VS and E2 / VS and VC'. nothing about the tha termina (that would be a 24 code).

I am assuming this means the VAF is toast.

or according to the book, the wiring or ecu could be problems.
i've heard that you should check the plug for any corrosion and make sure the terminials are all the way in the plug too

I'm getting off track, what I need to know, is if a 84 to 88 22re VAF will work in my 93 22re.

I had code 31 when I first bought my '88 4runner. It would only run for a few seconds before shutting off. It turned out to be the plug on the afm was either loose or corroded. All I did to fix it was unplug it, wipe it off and plug it back in

for anyone who needs to know, a VAF from a 84 to 88, will fit and will work on a 93 22re. picked one up from the wreckers and installed it, truck runs great now.
