V6 5speed Same As 22re 5 Speed?
i HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A 5 SPEED FROM A V6 WILL BOLT UP TO A 22RE IF YOU SWAP THE BELL HOUSING.
i HAVE AN 89 4RUNNER AND i AM HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING A 22RE TRANNY, BUT CAN FIND HUNDREDS OF V6 TRANNIES.
iS THIS TRUE, DOES ANYONE KNOW?

The R151F found behind the turbo 4cyls of 86 and 87 are the trannys that you have heard about.
The R150F is found behind the 6cyls and can swap bellhousings with the R151Fs. Im pretty sure this is the case.
The R150F does not have as low of gears in it as the R151F, but it will work i believe.
i would wait til someone can back up what im saying.

Just about any tranny will bolt to any motor if you have the right bellhousing.
By the time you find a turbo bellhousing, you may as well use the turbo tranny - which is very similar to the V6, but it has a lower first gear.
Shouldn't be too hard to find a 4 cyl 5 speed - anything from like '83 to '95 will work.

You can use the V6 transmission if you use a Turbo (R151F) bellhousing.
HOWEVER
The tranny/transfer case combo is different length than the 4cyl, so you will have to get new drivlines, and likely modify the hole in the floor for the shifter since thats all in a different location too.
Also, All V6 cases are chain drive. Not modable, and not desirable. All 84-89 4cyl cases are gear drive, and most 89-95 4cyl cases are gear drive (The only exception being 4cyl trucks w/ADD which have chain drive G-series trannys)

[hijack]I think the "bashing" of chain drive cases is old news. Propaganda from a time when Marlin and everyone didn't "trust" them because they were new and needed a reason for people to switch to gear drive. Those days are over now - chain drive cases are holding up fine behind supercharged 3.4's with 4.7 gears in front of them. Agreed they are not moddable, but they are certainly not undesirable for someone who only needs a "normal" low range[/hijack]

To reiterate, you'll need to find a 22ret bellhousing used with the r151f. *This is not easy and will cost aprox. $200* The front drive shaft used on the r150f is shorter than the w56 so you will also need that. I'm not 100% sure on the rear but your w56 rear shaft should work.
As for the t-case, the vf1a aka v6 chain case acutally has a slightly lower low range than the rf1a gear driven cases. If you're planning a double t-case the vf1a chain case cannot be used from what I understand. Otherwise use the chain case and enjoy the quietness of it.
What's the deal with your w56 anyway that you need another gearbox? They are easy to rebuild, given a good guide such as the FSM, bearing puller and press (though a brass drift and bfh can be used). I'm going to guess that you blew the input bearing and it broke some of the teeth on the input and counter shaft, correct?
