umm....what is this thing i found in my truck?

i found this thingy in the storage area inside the hump/ledge thing in the xtra cab. i have a feeling that it's supposed to keep the jack in place or something...which reminds me...where's the jack? i think it's supposed to go in that area too, but there's nothing there. looks like i get to head to a junkyard and get me a jack. yeah, newb questions, but they're generation specific, so i figured this is the place for them.

anybody aware of any differences in the factory jack between 89-95? or will any one from our generation fit in my truck? oh, and is the rod/handle supposed to be in there, too?

I'm pretty sure they're all the same; and yes, the rod/handle is supposed to be in there. When I get home on thursday & can shoot a pic unless someone does it before then.

for sure the thing to secure it. i have my jack with that thing to secure it and a bag with a couple of rods in it, including the wrench (the rods are to make the long thing to lower my stock spare) and the little "key" that fits on the spare lowering mechanism

A complete spare tire changing kit should come with the jack and the hook rod to raise and lower the jack....all stored on the driver side. On the pass. side, a bag with the rod extension, rod handle, a pry bar for the hub cap, a hub cap installing tool, and the lug wrench ...in two pieces. The kit is the same for 1st and 2nd gen's, but I can't say for 3rd's and on.

The stock jack works, but it's a pain....I've got a hi-lift now, much better.

yeah, i have a high lift, but am opting to leave it with my offroad 'kit' in the garage unless i plan to leave pavement, so i need to have all that stuff. as it if right now, i have two things in my xtra cab hump storage area 1) air, 2) a six disc changer i've never used. so if anybody could shoot a couple pics of what is s'posed to be there, and maybe jot the items down on a list if it's different than the list above that's for the 4runner, that would rock. i can go hit the junkyard and make sure i get everything at once, so i don't get to point where i need it and go "oh yeah...THAT's the other thing"

Well, if an "on road" tire changing kit is what you need, the 4rnr list will cover that. You might add a couple of wheel chucks to the kit for safety. That stock bottle jack isn't real stable on uneven roads if the vehicle decides to shift. I found some metal collapsable ones at Wal_Mart years ago. They fold in half and lay flat for storage.

Sorry, I don't have any pics at the moment of the 4rnr kit. I could take some today and post up this evening.....after I've changed my tie rod and idler arm out. It's a dire situation, that one is! Must be able to drive.
