Turbo vs 22re....Lets Discuss And Share Some Pics...
#22
hey guys, I got a 88 toyota 22re last week runs good but noticed that when 1st starting it up in the morning before school, the engine idles VERY low and if throttled not correctly, it will bog down and even shut off sometimes...anyone know this problem?
I would want to drive by your place sometime but i am sooo busy in work right now so sometime when i have time i guess...have you worked on these engines before?
other than such, i already was able to spray the fenders, hood, and bed...working on the cab now though and in the interior of the cab...
i am just sticking with 31's and maybe a set of 1.5" spacers...no more exhaust but headers are a must...headers with stock exhaust...what kind is a good performance header CA legal? and you said the cams? does this really help? i just dont want my mileage to drop down so much...
thanks all!

You're in a tough spot. CA emissions and the lack of tuning flexibility in the stock EFI is going to make significant power upgrades a hassle. I hate to say it, but it would have been less difficult to sneak significant power upgrades under the radar with a factory turbo truck. Smog techs tend to look closer when they spot aftermarket parts, even legal ones.
Why a hybrid? There are smaller, lighter, and more responsive small-frame turbos that would be far better choices for a sub-250hp 22RTE.

I have an 86 turbo....the people before me took the turbo off and put in high compression pistons...It runs great and very strong but someone mentioned I might not pass smog???

hey again,
its a 88 4wd toyota truck...its weird cause when i drive it it will bog if throttled too much and not only that but it will not be giving all performance...yet SOMETIMES after driving it gives in and runs like a champ...timing???
i still need a rear single roll bar in the bed, cold air, and headers....will be slapping on some spacers tomorrow and hopefully putting in some pics if i have time....
anyone selling any of the things listed above???
