Truck Jumps when I take my foot off of the gas
I have an 88 Pickup 4x4 with a 22RE and a Manual transmission. (It says 88 on the title and the body, but the engine/transmission appears to be the same as an 89- based on vaccum hoses).
When I let my foot off the gas, especially in 1st and 2nd gear, the truck jumps a bit (enough to jerk me around). This only happens intermittently, though it does happen most of the time. Any suggestions?
All vaccum hoses are connected properly, it has a new fuel filter, cap, rotor, wires and spark plugs.
I apologise if this has already been covered in another thread, I couldn't figure out how to describe the problem in a way that brough up anything relevent in a search.

If its that the engine jerks you around a bit, its the dashpot probably. The dashpot slows the closing of the throttle when you take the foot of the peddle. When it wears out, it might slam the throttle closed. My dashpot is messed up too and does something like what you're describing. Looks a bit like this (this is not from a 22RE, but it looks the same except the throttle cables are coming from the other direction):

Ok. frog,,,you say the truck jumps? because if someting jumps in the engine compartment, and since you think the engine has been replaced, You should take a look to those motor mounts.

In my old 86 i thought that i had a loose or broken motor mount. It ended up that my leaf spring perch pushed itself into the frame. (it was a little rusty)

The motor mounts look to be quite old, but they are secure.
In looking at the dashpot, I discovered the I seem to be missing the screw that pushes the button, which means the dashpot is doing nothing for me. I'll get it replaced and see what it does.
Thanks for the ideas.

well, first off you have to measure your air (joke)
second off, this is normal (considering what your describing), as if you let your foot off the gas in first without compensating with the clutch going 10+, your gonna get bumpy. Happens in second too past 20 miles per hour, and in 3rd past 35 miles per hour.
To remedy this, press the clutch as you let off the gas, or... shift up. If this occurs when you are downshifting, never downshift into first.
