transmission transfer adapter output/transfer case input leak?

Hello!
Been using the forum as reference for awhile, but posting for the first time because there's a problem I can't find much info on.(I was only able to find someone talking about something similar on a 97' but there was no pictures) I have an 87' 4runner, 22-re, manual 5 speed. I figured out from the factory manual that its leaking from the back of the transfer adapter. It's definitely the transmission's oil that's leaking bc it's become very difficult to shift. (and I know that my clutch is working good) I believe this is also where it connects with the input to the t case? So my guess is that it's the t case input seal that needs replacing? Anyone who can confirm this or point me in the right direction of what is failing here? also any info on what the repair job will require is much appreciated, Thanks!

Have you actually checked the transmission and transfer case oil levels and oil condition??? .. If not, do it.

Before that, you really don't know anything about what might actually be going on.

A leak from that joint will drain the transfer case before anything else.

There is no transfer case 'input seal', per se. There is a seal in the back of the transfer case adapter that keeps the oil in the transmission.

If that seal fails, the transfer case will overfill at the expense of the transmission proper.

If your leak at the adaptor/tansfer case joint is sustantial, and the "SEAL, OIL (FOR TRANSFER ADAPTER)" Toyota part number 90311-32009 between them has also failed;

Both your tranny and transfer case might well be low.

Your image doesn't really appear to show any substantial leakage though.
