presuming that the 88 and and the 91 are essentially the same (and we are using MY FSM for my 92 as well....so it pretty much is)....NO CORK GASKET for the pan. the pan is made to be sealed with FIPG.

HEAT.
That's my 2 cents worth:
Pull the key, as it can bind the gear.
Then, heat the timing gear (not the crank) with a hair drier or heat gun. This will encourage the gear to expand. Liberal use of oil can help it slide. Avoid WD-40 and similar using this method because they can catch fire from the heat gun.
To get the crank pully bolt back in, heating the crank and freezing the bolt works if you don't have room to get the impact gun in there.
