Yeah that would be perfect! You'd be right about the very begining of the power band 5th gear 55 miles per hour ~2300-2400 rpm if I remember correctly. That'll get you great gas mileage. Easily over 20 probably around 24 mpg range if not better (depending on how well your truck runs... ) and I found that the speeometer is off an average of 5 miles per hour fast while the odometer is interestingly enough ~6% under the actual mileage traveled. You'd think it'd be more than the actual mileage traveled but it's not.

im runnin 33x12.50s, stock gears, 22re yada yada. if your used to drivin full size V8 trucks or somethin liek that, then its gonnna feel real slow. its slow but its not that big of a deal IMO. im fine with it. it is really slow mering onto teh interstae and you cant pass to much. going up hills if you get a run and go then i can get up them pretty good. seems like everyone but me cant use 5th gear. i use 5th all the time on the intersate, i puntch it to the floor goin up hill and usually make it without loosing to much speed. just get some 33s. that way when u regear youll be even more thankful

IMO I wouldn't run 33x12.5 on stock 4.10's. I find that my 31x10.5 do just fine. Not too much loss and she runs the hills well, usually only have to drop to 4th. If you have to go to the 33's then get the 10.5 not the 12.5 I think you'll notice a difference between the 2. I'm running 33x12.5 on my 4runner v6 auto and she's real slow. I'll be doing the 5spd swap someday soon.

If you want bigger tires and enough power to run around without beating up your clutch too much get the 31's. If the clutch is not an issue nor is the highway then go to 33's but consider gears soon. If not gearing definitely get the 10.5 vs the 12.5

i have 33s with stock 4.10s and it's not that bad. now when i have my a/c on that's a different story. i run 33x12.5s and am getting 24 mpg all highway. eventually i'd like to try different gears but i've got a bunch of other things i'd rather invest in for my truck for now.

Your calculations gotta be off...These trucks never got that kind of mileage new, with stock tires, going down hill, coasting. What year, engine, trans?

the calculations are accurate. i bought the truck in virginia and drove it home to nyc and had plenty of time measure. this is a new truck for me and so far i have about 1k on it. my last truck was a 92 and i would struggle to get 17 on the highway. this one is getting 23/24 highway before taking into account the error in the odometer reading due to the 33s which i think is about 10% based on measuring with mile markers on the highway. so i think i am in fact getting even better mileage. i wonder what i would be getting with my old 31x10.5 ATs that are sitting in my garage??
