...staying ahead of a problem
For the most part, the 3.0 is running ok. Drives great and good gas mileage. However, I've started to notice an slight 'shake' while idling. It is not noticeable unless my hand is on the shifter. Recently, I lost the AC belt...could that be related?
Regardless, I will be doing the following this weekend:
- replacing 3 drive belts
- cleaning K&N filter
- cleaning TB
- checking wires
- checking SP
I would like to check for intake leaks. What is the best way? Is there something I could spray to see if the idle smoothes out?
Anything else I should be checking?
note: the topend was done about a year ago....oh...my muffler needs replacing (cracks)...but it's been bad for several years.

you can use starting fluid (ether) to check for vacuum leaks, but you will want to use an can that has the straw, so maybe you'd be better off using something like MAF or throttle body cleaner. you'll likely not find any leaks though since the roughness isn't really that bad (consider the length of the shifter... that means you're only feeling it after the vibration is magnified by the length of the shifter)
most engines have a slight 'bobble' every now and then. but if this is really bothering you, a half-bottle of seafoam (it's a brand name cleaner) in a full tank of gas may help clean up the injectors and valve seats. also, checking the spark-plug gaps may help. you could also run some seafoam through a vacuum line into the intake manifold to help clean that up.

....I threw in some Lucas Injector cleaner last night (while doing an oil change). I didn't drive it today. I'll see if that helped. I've got 3 cans of Seafoam, but I've never used it in the tank....only oil and intake (via the brake booster).
The truck has sorta been neglected this past year since the Previa has been in its death-throws (270k)...it is fixable, but my wife has put a DNR on it. If I can't get it to pass smog this month, the state (CA) is going to buy it for $1,000.
I'm bummed about the AC belt failing. I've never had a belt fail on me, because I'm usually good with my PM. Now, I'm sort of hyper sensitive to problems....btw the 4runner just hit 380k
