Starting in the rain

I encountered this problem a few weeks ago on a rainy day leaving work... I started up the truck, it turned over a little hard but I didn't think anything of it, but as I was leaving work I had to floor it to get it to go even 20 mph. I kept having to do this til the engine warmed up, then it was fine. Then I didn't think anything of it again cause it hasn't rained since. But this morning it was raining again and it took me 3 or 4 tries to get the engine going... I didn't have the acceleration problems this time, but it was still a PITA.

What do you think this problem is?

It might be moisture/condensation in the distributer, or a bad connection from the coil to the distributer, aggrivated by dampness. I once had a simliar problem and found a badly corroded connection where the coil wire came into the distributer cap. New distributer cap, rotor, and wires cleared it right up.

What engine? 3.0 or 3.4?

Spark plug wires could be cracked, allowing moisture and dirt to short them out.

Look at your ignition system...plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, etc. Sometimes you can get shocked by touching the plug wires while it's running--a sure sign they are going out.

It's probably not the plugs themselves, but something connecting to them.

Something you can do to tell if its the wires w/o shocking yourself, get the truck in a really dark place, leave it running get under the hood and spray water all around with a spray bottle set to a fine mist. If you see some arcing as you are spraying the water you will know that the wires are in fact bad. By the way, if you do get wires, get factory ones. I havent seen a good set of aftermarket wires anywhere for a toyota.
