Starter Issue
Alright guys I bought mynew 4runner a few weeks and started up fine, but this week it didnt and just started to click and click. So my immediate solution to this was the starter. The previous owner told the me the starter was new, so I change the ignition switch out for a new one and still it clicks. I then take off the starter and find out that the male end connector on the starter will not fit the female connector on the harness. It was modified with a blue wire. I took the starter to autozone to get tested and it was good. So did the previous owner have the wrong starter on?? I also ordered the "rebuild kit" from toyota to switch out the contacts and tested the battery and it was good. I've searched, but did not find anyone else having this issue.
Thanks,
Josh

I just recently went through all of this myself. Here is a link & picture of what you need to do to test for voltage at the Solenoid while you are trying to start your truck. This way you can determine if you are getting adequate voltage to engage the Solenoid. You should be getting close to the same as what you get at the battery (under load). I was only getting 7.8v to the Solenoid, so I took everyone's advice & purchased a Hot Shot starter relay kit. Good luck!

Did you take it off the truck and visually compare it to a known correct starter from the Autozone?
I would be willing to bet that they might honor the limited lifetime warranty still if it were the wrong one.

Yes, I took it off the truck. Autozone did not have one in stock, so I could not compare them side by side. The picture is how it was connected to the starter.
