Yeah, those starters are upwards of a grand IIRC. You only need the one contact (the other shouldn't have much wear). The fix was twenty buck. That opens the season on 500+ cold Rickards Reds.

I found the starter R&R job was easy. Hardest part was my dealer giving me one of the wrong contacts. It was different but worked with some filing.

I had it done in less then an hour.

No way, I could never figure out what i was tasting in White, but I didn't like it as much. I like their Honey Lager as well. Its a good before-noon beer on fishing trips.

I replaced my contacts at the same time I pulled my transmission. It's not easy to get the starter through the access panel with all the wires in the way, but it's an easy fix once you get it out. I got 2 contacts from toyota for $10. The plunger was in pretty good shape, so I didn't replace it. They wanted $30 bucks, but mine was in good shape. It's an easy fix for a common problem.

Good info. I always removed the oil filter to get that top bolt out. I never thought about the charcoal filter.

Yeah that would be a good idea. I have a big York air compressor that sits where the AC compressor is mounted so that wouldn't have worked, but it would on everyone else's engine.
