Spring Upgrade/Swap - 87 Pickup 4X4
Hey guys...just a couple questions,
1 - So I recently hung up my keys for my 87 pickup as a daily driver and am driving my 95 runner everyday. Ive decided to pull the truck in the garage, and building her up some. The top leaf on the drivers side is broke, and ive been thinking of putting some heavier duty springs and know alot of people swap for chevy springs and am wondering what the best set up would be. I do have a set of helper springs that were put in a few years ago.
2 - The rear box panels have also been swapped out for fiberglass ones, but theyre quite wavy when looking down the side of the truck, and ive been thinking about pulling the bed off, cleaning up and painting the frame and undercarriage. Im looking for any thoughts or opinions on having a custom built flatbed as opposed to a bed on back. I want to be able to drive the truck on the street if i have to but will mainly be used on the trails.
Thanks in advance

Chevy, or longer springs are for flex and will require you to fab the new mounts.
I'd either put stock springs back on it or get some OME springs. There are lots in a pack so you can tailor your ride, amount of lift and load capacity. They also ride and flex better.

If your wanting to build it up (like you originally said) I'd look into longer springs. You get more flex and a nicer ride and can set it up with more load carrying to boot. Everything for this has already been 'fabbed' and you'd just need to weld on the hangers taking careful measurments to make sure your axle is straight. If I can do it, it's not that hard. You could even use the stock shock mounts if you wanted too.
