I would like to replace my valve stem seals, I haven't found any threads with good information, other than someone saying its easier with the head off.
I am changing out my TC, and have the thing apart, but I really don't want to remove the head because I would probably just end up having to have it rebuilt. (even more money)

One question I have is how much air pressure should I use to hold the valves in without over doing it?

Having done it with the heads on my bench, I can tell you I wouldn't want to try to do it with the heads on the vehicle. My seals were a real pain in the a$$ to remove, and they kept breaking up when I tried to grab them with needle nosed pliers or with a little dental pick like hook.

If you think the heads need to be rebuilt, then they need to be rebuilt whether you don't remove them from the truck or whether you remove them. Just because you don't remove them to check them doesn't make them OK, and just because you remove them, doesn't mean they won't be OK.

My heads have 180,000 miles on them, and all I had to do to mine was clean them, clean the valves, and replace the valve stem seals. Every thing else was perfect and in spec.
