Rear Driveshaft compatibility

Hey everyone!

My name is Grey, and this is my first post. I own an 89 4runner that I picked up from a slick used car salesman about 1-1/2 years ago. It had a little over 200k on the clock, but ran and drove ok without too much leaking. So I replaced the PS valve cover gasket, and gave it a basic tune up (plugs/wires/cap/rotor), it ran pretty well after that. Well, it took about 2 weeks for the clutch to let go, replaced it, and a couple weeks later, the tranny started grinding. Been driving it like that for about a year now, and as long as I speed match the gears I can shift without grinding. I'll be replacing the tranny soon as well, but that's not what this thread is about, I just wanted to give a quick intro, but I guess there's a newbie somewhere for that.

So the other night, girlfriend has the truck, and I get a call that it won't drive and there's a big pole hanging down. I went to check it out the next day, and sure enough, the rear driveshaft was hanging. The rear universal looked like it had exploded, and the eyelets in the driveshat were badly ovaled and even cracked or missing material. So I unbolted the front universal from the t-case, locked the hubs, and threw into 4wd hi, and drove it home as a FWD, LOL!

So that's where I am now. I need to replace the rear driveshaft for an 89 4runner 3vze 5speed 4x4. I havn't been able to find one locally, which kinda surprised me, so I've turned to Ebay. I found a match with 46.000 miles for 175 + ~$40 to ship. Sounds like an ok deal simply becuase of the mileage. My question had to do with the year, it came out of a 3vze powered 5speed 4x4, but a 94. Seller lists it as compatible with an '89, but I thought I should turn to the experts before spending $200 that I don't really have, lol!

Thanks for reading, I'll be doing a lot more work on this truck, just to make it a reliable snow vehicle, and look forward to learning a lot here!

Also, if you have any suggestions for better deals on the driveshaft, or are selling one, feel free to let me know, thanks!

Car-Part.com will most likely have one locally. That's a VERY common driveshaft.

Thanks for the tip man! I thought it would be pretty common, but I didn't call a whole lot of yards. You were right, though, a bunch of results came up on the search engine you posted.

Any confirmation on year compatibility? Will any 89-94 v6/5 speed/4x4 rear driveshaft work?

EDIT: I found one 3-4 hours away for $80, long drive, but pretty good savings I guess, may ask if they ship, but it's a salvage yard, so IDK.

I would guess most 89-95 4Runner, or SWB PU, 4x4 V6 MT rear driveshafts would work. I have seen some odd stock configurations(V6 w/ 4cyl rear driveshaft). Very rarely though, so that's why I can't say all of those would bolt up. But most should.
