Hi guys, I'm new here and need some help:

Just bought a 94 4runner, and was trying to install a head unit that my nephew gave to me, my problem is that I can't find the correct wiring harness that will work on this truck, bought two different ones I found at the store but they don't fit, I know the truck still has the original factory stereo so I do not know if there are any other harnesses out there or what, the ones I got are two pieces but there is only one piece to plug into on the truck.

Any help will be appreciated.

where did you buy the harness's? i get mine at best buy or circuit city. if they dont have the right ones then im stumped.

Only one of the two plugs fit that truck because the other plug is for factory equipped rear speakers (like those on the decklid of a camry) The one plug that does fit has your power, ground and front speakers in it.

Not sure if this will help, but I think there were a couple of options, one being with the factory amplifier (I have that one) and one without. I do not know, however, if the plug setups were different.

Sorry, I didnt see that it was a 4runner. Yeah, you might have the factory amp. If you do I think that you can unplug the amp, the plugs that you pull out of the amp are the ones that those two plugs you got from the store will fit - if I remember correctly

correct, just follow the harness to the amp and unplug the two harnesses from the amp.

So, let me just clear this up, will doing this eliminate the amplifier completely or not? I will try again next weekend and see what happens.

I am actually going through this myself...so wanted to post up.

The larger plug may fit (I didn't really try to shove it hardcore didn't want to bear it) and the smaller plug will not fit at all - this must be for the amp. So if I just wire the bigger plug, how will the rear speakers be powered? Will I have to run a separate lines to the rear speakers? What a PITA!

But there are factory amp bypass harnesses you can buy as well.

Pretty sure that's exactly what I have, but for some reason the plug that is for the amp (I assume the 2nd smaller plug with only 4 wires) in no way would fit. It's more square while the plug from the factory harness is more rectangle like. I will take a picture and post it.
