power steering pump, new or rebuild?
ok well mine has been leaking all week and it is still leaking fluid but i still have some power. the pump is noisy only when i turn it on but after driving a couple blocks it become quiet. how long can i drive it with a bad pump? should i rebuild or replace the pump? the pump is expensive and im broke right now. i need to fix it because its my daily driver. how difficult is it to rebuild with a new seal kit?ive searched but havent been able to find much that answers my questions.

I mean unless you got nothing better to do and like to do it.........its better to just buy a whole new pump.... sure its leaking out the pump and not a hose? You could try some lucas power steering fix it might help a bit i've heard good about it but honestly its prolly not wooopppiiieee. Keep it full of fluid and drive unless you want to change it.... nobody rebuilds pumps much anymore.... get a new one.....

I rebuilt mine and it's working great. A bunch of folks here have done the same. Read this thread and see if you want to do it or not, but it's only about $30 for a rebuild kit from Toyota and the job isn't difficult. I highly recommend giving the rebuild a try and if it still makes noise after the rebuild, get a new one.
