Yeah, you'll need to verify power's getting to the ECU from the relay. Does the CEL illuminate when you turn the key to ignition?

No.....need to check for power. It's getting there. But, the CEL should flash even a "no trouble" code when you have the terminals jumped. Get the ECU.

No need to do that, though, right? I mean you said already that the CEL didn't flash with the test terminals jumped, right?
An auto ECU will work. But, you have to short the P/N safety switch circuit and do some other things to keep the CEL off. I'll have to reply more on that later. Gotta run...

ok thank you!! my buddy just blew his head gasket and he is going to pull his ecu out for me so i can put it in mine and if it works then buying one friday.. but just to be clear the problems i was having with the rough idle and smelling gas and felt like it was missin that could be solved with an ecu? (if the ecu is the problem)

Well, if the ECU is the problem, then certainly. And, of course, it's possible there's more than one thing going on. But, if the ECU's bad, you could replace everything with the entire engine and it still won't run right. The ECU controls everything electronically in regards to fuel management. Well, most everything.
You know I wanted so bad to answer that question with something sarcastic, but today's your lucky day. It's just been to hot to be a smartass.....

ok GREAT news put the ECU in last night it turned over for a while then stumbled to fire so i tried it a few more time if started but a little rough and smelled like gas really bad and then slowly idled up to the normal idle and cleared up i let it run for about 45 min just idling to make sure it was good and to charge battery and to make sure it would over heat or anything then i drove it around for about 3 hours and its been running great drove it to work this morning everything just fine now need to buy an ECU and return his so freakin happy!!!! thanks for all your patients and help!!
