pinion seal,overtightened nut

if i overtightened the big nut ,does it mean that the new seal is no longer good?it was crushed in a little to prevent slipping, and thats where i tightened it back to.its still leaking.well i read that its 19 lb.torque, what is that snug?

Huh? Are you talking about the nut on the companion flange? This doesn't tighten the seal. The torque on the companion flange nut is usually a lot higher than 19 ft-lbs.

Yeah, the pinion nut typically is tightened to roughly 80 ft-lb when using a crush sleeve, or 150-200 ft-lb when using a solid spacer. If a new seal leaks after you install it, it may be due to faulty installation (spring on back side of seal might have fallen off when seal was tapped in), there could be wear on the pinion shaft where the seal rides causing the leak, your pinion bearings could be loose/worn, causing the pinion to wobble slightly, etc...
