oil filters

How much are mobil1 filters?
How much are fram filters?
How much are toyota filters?
Can't go wrong with the genuine toyota filter. Probably won't go wrong with any of the premium filters either, except fram, which suck.
Over the lifetime of an engine, say, 300,000 miles, you only do around 100 oil changes. Saving $2/filter is only $200 total bucks saved over the life of the engine.
You decide.
I put Toyota v8 filters on almost everything.

I use NAPA/WIX. One of the reasons I don't like Fram is the fact that their bypass valve is installed after the filter media. If the bypass valve opens on a cold day, the oil runs past the dirty filter and right into your engine. Wix and several other of the better manufacturers put the bypass valve right at the front of the filter.

+1 yeah that could not have been my first place to put it. at least when i go wheeling that general area is under about an inch of mud and gravel by the end of the day. though it does make it easier to change the filter.

I'm aware of the risk and I feel that it's pretty sturdy. I've had it caked up with mud and gravel pretty good once already and it doesn't catch when the tire tucks so I just keep a close eye on my oil pressure gauge. If I had installed it then I wouldn't have picked that spot either but the PO put it on so I have left it for now. I might make a metal guard and mount it around it. Sort of a metal box or something but for now it's fine.

Royal Purple is a higher grade oil, if your vehicle doesn't leak & you can afford the cost, go for it. I would run it myself but I have a little oil leak & I can't justify the cost personally until I get it sealed up tight so I just use Mobil1; still expensive but not as much as Royal Purple.

i used fram for years. i switched to wix. i think it is more routine maintenance than anything. i had 150,000 mile on my last motor rebuild, no oil consumption, plugs looked great last tune-up, no knocks.
you don't here much about air filters but i can say wix air filters are better than fram, and on par with oem.
