Well before you ditch the idea....work may be sending me out to Vegas for 5 days. If so i would be happy to stop by and lend a helping hand and see if we can't figure it out. Otherwise we can all just web-consult on how we think it should work. I'll find out tomorrow if they are sending me or not. Just an offer.

Yeah, that's where the extra "L" shaped piece is supposed to go. They came with the original bumper when it was sold new. unfortunately Smittybilt doesn't make that bumper anymore.

Yup, I got one of those. It is made by smittybuilt, you are missing the aluminum skid plate insert and the two L-bracket adapters. Maybe you can find a local shop to fab you up a couple of adapters?

I removed the stock skidplate and lower valence, but left the stock bumper on my first gen. I have it on my 2nd gen now, with the stock bumper modded to make it fit.

I would suggest that you hit up a metal place for some steel heavier than the Hope Depot stuff. The stuff they sell is such thin material that if you add a set of lights the vibration transmitted to the light bar will drive you nuts as the beam pattern bounces every where. You should be able to form something to work if you have got access to a vice and a BFH.

Metal place should also have some aluminum that you can form to match the curve. Just don't use diamond plate--it looks good but never understood why someone would use something designed to grip as a skid plate..

What you need to do is learn how to fabricate. Really dude, its NOT that hard to get that bumper to fit, you need some sheet metal, and some bolts.. and proper equpitment...

Dude! Nick we need to get together and hook that bumper up! You saw the way my lights are mounted? My friend welded me up a quick bracket for those things totally custom. Call me and we can get that thing put on easy. p.s. are you going to come watch the game? p.s. x2 where did you get such a good deal!? I've been looking but the cheapest I've found was like $300! Call me.

I have the same bumper on my 86.

It is a smittybuilt (as others have posted), it goes on over the stock bumper and uses the bottom bolts for the factory skid plate and two L brackets that attach to the lower front bumper mounting bolts.

Since you are missing the factory brackets and need to have some fabbed up, there is a little trick that I used to make the bumper sit higher.

I had brackets fabbed up that attached to the upper and lower bumper mount holes so that the bumper mounting tabs lined up with the upper factory bumper mount holes. Had to slightly notch the bumper to make the brackets fit but the end result is MUCH nicer looking (and probably stronger) then having it riding low under the front bumper

EDITED TO ADD: I also had to bend the lower mount tabs (on the diff bracket) to match the change in angle. Overall, the bumper wound up about 2 1/2 inches higher in the front.

Any chance of a close up pic of the missing bracket and what you used to correct it? Thanks. Looks good by the way!
