Low fuel light won't come on

The low fuel warning light in my '90 v6 truck no longer comes on when it should. The light glows when put voltage across the terminals, so I know it's not the light itself that is faulty. The fuel level gauge works normally. How can I fix this warning light?

My '91 4runner SR5 has all the bells and whistles.....EXCEPT that.....lol!
Trace the wiring. Maybe you have a break somewhere. Are the contacts clean?

I never knew that was an option on these trucks.

Yup, little orange rectangular light just left of the E, that you can't see until it comes on. I guess 20 years of letting the tank run to less than 1/4 full has burned up the part of the sender that triggers that light. I'd like to fix it, so I'll keep looking. Thanks.

According to the FSM the light is run from the sender in the tank and not the actual gauge in the dash. They are 2 different circuits so your sender unit has probably gone bad. You can test it but you have to get to the plug. Terminals 1 and 4 on the sender plug are the light switch.

I've got it on my 88 and 92, and neither of them work either.
