According to the VA State Police website, the only requirements for vehicle doors to pass a safety inspection, and I imagine consequently be allowed for road use, are: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Safety.sh...pectionProgram

"21. INSPECT DOORS AT THE RIGHT & LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVER’S SEAT FOR:
Handle or opening device which will permit the opening of the door from the outside and inside of the vehicle.
Latching system which will hold door in its proper closed position."

Doesn't say anything about their construction.

Maybe someone in VA with tube doors can give you first hand advice....

This has prolly been asked before, but what do jeeps do? Usually half the time you ride around with no doors at all. Do they get away with it up there?
Yall have some strict laws up there

Many states don't require doors; however, you do need a lip on the floor like Jeeps have. You also need mirrors.

When I had my Jeep (easy... easy.. I was 16 and couldn't afford a first gen 4runner off the lot) I remember my first inspection. I was told to go home & put the doors on.. or they could fail me & I could go home, put the doors on & come back. The mechanic said that it was legal to drive without the doors because they were manufactured to be removeable at the factory, as an option. However, for the vehicle to pass inspection they had to be on the vehicle at the time of inspection.

Whether or not this guy was pullin' my chain.. I don't know, only had the vehicle for 1 more inspection and just drove up with the doors on.

Those are usually little laws no one around here pays atention to. Like the lift law here nobody ever says anything. Georgia is pretty cool about vehicles except the tint law they hit it pretty hard. Youcould take the doors off almost anything around here, unless your showing out nothing is usually said, at least the times ive been around it over the years. We never thought about tube doors when we were doing it

you might want to consider buying a set so they will pass your state's inspection:

If he made them from my '81 I would have bought them from him...I have his sliders and the quality of his work is outstanding.

One thing to keep is mind when running tube doors is to make sure you have all your small things secure, like cell phones...don't ask me how I know..

Notice they have regs IF the doors are there - says nothing about having to have doors. (Notice it says you have to have break lights, a windshield, wipers ect.) So if you are going to make those tube doors make sure they match up with what is out on the DMV's website.

I dont know the exact law (but i should find out cause i live in VA) but my buddy was riding around in his Yota with the doors off and got pulled over. The cop said that he had to have his doors on. He asked why because jeeps can do it. The officer says that they were made that way from the factory as an option, so it is o.k., the toyota was not made this way.

Don't know if it was true, sounds like B.S.

I say get the doors, ride em till you get pulled over, then see what happens.

besides... FUHK the POLI... wait, better calm down
