Talking knocking front wheel (Driv. Side)

hey all,

i drive a 94 toyota just recently discovered that the ball joint connecting to my rocker arm has a lot of play on my driver side causing excessive play in my wheel so im not driving it.

my question is, i cant seem to find in the FSM the name of the part that connects to it. steering relay rod?
also what should i also look at replacing? or does the rod just need adjusting?

thanks,

You are getting terminology mixed up. Rocker arms are in the cylinder head of the engine. Your ball joints do not connect to them. Pictures would make a world of difference in getting you the advice that you need.

That being said, I think by reading what you posted that you have a bad outer tie rod end. There should be no play in them and there is no adjustment to take out the slop. If there is movement, they are shot and need replaced. Read about them in your FSM.

Kind of hard to figure out which part you're referring to, but if a ball joint is loose it can't be adjusted, it needs replaced.
The relay rod is the longest part on the steering, it connects to the pitman arm on one end and the idler arm on the other. Then it has 2 tie rods, one on each end, connecting to the wheels.

it sounds like the tie rod that connects to the relay rod (?) via that ball joint.

if this is correct, do both the relay rod and tie rod need replacing or just the tie rod?

in the FSM it calls the part in question the knuckle arm, not rocker arm, sorry about that.

thanks
