Just scored an E-locker / have questions.
It came from a 98 4runner 4x4
Axle code was A04A.
I have confirmed it is 4:30 gears but is it a 7.5"
Thats what the A is supposed to mean, but I thought all E-lockers are 8".
can anyone help me?

the meaning of the letters changes somewhere, i think 96, and the A no longer means 7.5. so when you look in one of those online code lists, you have to make sure you're looking at one that applies to your source vehicle. if you have the parts in hand, i recommend measuring them.

those axle codes mean nothing on taco's and 96+ toyotas. I've tried to find a decoder for the later model axle codes but there is no such thing, even the dealers couldn't decode the axle codes on them

Up to '03 I'm pretty sure. Don't know about after that, though. I believe mine is from a '98, but then again I'm going off what the ebay seller said, so...
Any 8" Elocker should work, even the high pinion Elocker from the front of Land Cruisers

pretty sure quite a bit of fabrication is required to make this work:

what kind of truck are you putting this into?
be sure to post your progress, i'd love to do this myself, just not sure if it'll work!

It's a common swap, and well documented. From memory:
You'll need one or two longer studs, drill a hole or two in your housing, and an e-locker gasket (and some RTV). Assuming it's the same gear ratio as your rig, it's not difficult to swap in.

shaeff is right, it's not hard I did it to my 91. Also all the taco/4runner/fj cruiser e-lockers are the same up through 09 (gearing not withstanding). I've got an 07 or 08 e-locker under mine right now from a taco to get the 3.73 gearing. All the 05+ V6 taco lockers are 3.73, I believe the 4cyl ones are still 4.10 or 4.56.

I haven't looked into a Taco rear in a while, but you'd probably have to change spring perches and whatnot, aside from the fact that I think it's a bit wider than our stock axles.
