I got home tonight and figured I'd see what it'd take to get the radio and rear window switch working, so I removed them and found close to the worse possible scenario. Of course someone cut the original stereo harness instead of spending the $20 for the plug and play solution, but apparently they didn't know what they were doing and gave up halfway through. I also noticed two harnesses were cut, one to the rear window switch and one to something else. Why someone would do this, I have no clue. Can any of you tell me what the other harness is for and the best way to repair the radio, switch, and other wiring? Maybe a wiring diagram for the stereo? Is the rear window supposed to be able to be rolled down with the lock on the tailgate? If so, I have to fix that too. Here are some pics of the mess:
Radio wiring:

First, what is the cut harness on the left for?
Second, what is the (smaller of the two) cut harness on the right for?
And third, what is the harness on the very right that goes to the bottom of the pic for?
Thank you so much in advance!!!

Excellent score on the 4Runner even if it knocks a little. With proper care it may even go 40,000 more before any help is needed.
I've always thought that seafoam in the oil should be left in there for a couple hundred miles before change. It's what I do.
For the top end of motor, I remove the large hose coming off the brake booster, pour 1/3rd of a can in it, let it sit for 25-30 minutes, then fire it back up till the smoke clears and drive it. Put some in the gas tank also.
Never heard of the other stuff. Might have to check it out.
Good luck with the Runner. You got a desirable one even if you think the V6 is a weak link cuz you got the 5 speed.

good score!!! seems the 89's are the toughest 1st gens to get. So good get.
I did my antenna, as long as you still have the mechanism, and when you throw the switch , you can hear it trying to work; then check out these folks.
I did mine; took about 2 hours, to dissassemble, put in new cable, reassemble.
it would not have taken that long, but when you reaseemble, there are a couple of areas where you need to think a move or two ahead- otherwise you will put on a part in the wrong order, realized you screwed up, and have to take some stuff back apart, to get it back together in the right order!!!

by the way; I was allways told here, that on the 22re engines, a little ' tick tick tick' is common, and not to worry too much about it. not sure on those 3. slows though, they seem to be the hard Q@#SSes of the bunch...
yeah, on the seafoam, for putting in the oil, should let it run for some miles, proly 50 or so , just to clean out all the gunk, and get it free moving, then do an oil change. As for adding to vaccuum, you have to make sure your engine is HOT FIRST, then add 6 oz.. kill the engine fast, or have someone sitting in there kill it, when it sucks it all up. let stand for 15 mins or so, then get in and restart. let the engine run, and rev it up and down, up and down, for about 10 mins or so, until the smoke show is over, then do your second adding to the vaccuum , and repeat. for the oil though, you really need to add a whole can...
