How many quarts do you use in 3.0's?
I just bought a 95 4runner with the 3.0 and the manual says it takes 4.5 or 4.8 qts. I can't tell which on it is. I had a 92 that used to take about 5.1 qts. I put in just under 5 how much do you guys use? I'm gonna drive it right now then check it again. I mean oil change with filter. thanks Paul

Yeah, I know I probably put in about 4.5 maybe a little more then started it and I heard a pretty loud ticking sound coming from my valves I think so I let it run for a few minutes then turned it off and put the rest in. There was only enough left to cover the bottom of the jug....Not even a half of quart, I just bought this truck and I've never heard the ticking before, could I have hurt the valves by starting it like a half quart low like that? I know I'm probably just being paranoid but it's funny it sounded alot queiter before.

P.S. It started idling a little lower than usual when I let it run for a couple minutes after the change. It was idling around 1000 rpm when I got it now it's about 800. It seems to have kind of a miss now.

no you didn't hurt a thing. if you looked at the dipstick with 4 quarts it probably read full, once you start the truck let it run for a minute or so and recheck and it will be down about a quart. so just top it off. this is because the oil that drains out of the filter and the lines need to be pressurized to refill itself. and it is just as bad to overfill your truck, with too much oil it can be forced out the exhaust and ruin your cats.

You are fine. Personally, I use 4.7670345 quarts. Sorry for the razz. You are going to burn it off anyways. Oil does not require exact measurements, unlike rocket science. (disclaimer: I do not know anything about rocket science). Just get it close. If it was that big of a deal, there would not be a "Min" and "Max" on the dipstick.
