i bet if you used a dremel with a small cut-off wheel, or something accurate to get an even clean cut, the ttora way might be the way to go

By the way, something else to consider RE this subject.....legal issues. Last Sunday I got pulled over and cited a fix it ticket. The officer said, "I pulled you over because your wheels stick way out" She explained to me that I need mud flaps that cover the wheels. She thought fiberglass fenders were also a good idea. She told me she drove an 1988 Toyota 4x4 pickup for years and my 1986 caught her eye. Anyway, trimming the sheet metal fenders for clearance may not be enough. Fiberglass fenders and mudflaps may also be needed.

I bent up some sheet metal and welded it to my cut fenders:

Before:

After:

That was after repainting with some of that automotive touch up paint from the auto parts store.

Good luck with that. You will burn through those little dremel wheels every 30 seconds. Those things aren't meant for our size sheet metal.

ElCheapo electric body saw ( HF) $15.00.....not having ugly fenders...priceless. That or access to an air cutting wheel.

Once you bend the tabs over like ttora and hammer even why not just cover that with finder trim from your local body shop/paint store.
