Hard Top Paint

I was sure this would have been covered. But since i didnt find anything while searching. What is the process to go about repainting a 4runner hardtop? After washing mine today i kind of scrubbed off some of the paint. And to think i thoguht i was removing some mildew from the top.

Thanks

My black top was getting a lot of white showing through on the corners and top so when i rebuilt the top i took it into a car paint shop and they looked at it and told me they would just use some semi flat black spray paint. Said if i didn't put a coating on it i would have to repaint after it faided, but it's not hard to shoot it with the can when it is off every once in a while...

It turned out GREAT and that was about 1 year and a half ago and it still looks as nice as the day i painted it. I think i did 10+ coats VERY light, used 6 cans and took my time and it turned out great, looks brand new and factory.

You need to strip it, sand it, and coat with a fiberglass sealer. Then prime and repaint it. Google fiberglass boat repair.

I painted mine with Rustoleum flat black spray paint, but for a factory look I'd look into the suggestion above.

I just used the duplicolor bedliner, the spray on kind. It worked great I didn't prep anything, just washed the top real good. It was a bit pricier than regular paint, but it didn't absorb like paint does. It looks great and probably won't be needing anymore for quite some time.

Gonna have to paint mine I think, while it's off and just sitting in the yard. Been a few times I thought about throwing it back on but the paint is badly faded from the AZ sun.
