growling noise
Has any one had problems with their 4 runner making growling noises. I changed the oil in the rear diff and it is not as loud, but it still make a little noise when your driving over 45 mph and take your foot off of the gas. any suggestions would be appreciated. Also what lift would you guys recommend to get 2 to 3 inches on it.
Thanks I just bought it and I am new to the 4 runner.
I have a 1985 Toyota SFA pickup and a 2003 Tacoma D-Cab, but don't know anything about the 4 runners.

You might check the rear pinion flange for play. How? Climb under the truck (block the wheels, e-brake off) and grab the lower end of the shaft and give it a good push-pull. If you feel any play side-side or up-down, likely the pinion nut has loosened and needs tightening.

got it fixed
I took it to the shop and they pulled the third member off. The gears spacing was too tight, loosened and put back together. works fine now.
Just need a wheel alignment and a few other small things.
Not a bad buy for 3700.
Thanks
Gerald
