Great, another code 52 thread!!
Well first off my truck is an 89 V-6 4runner, and I have just finished having my heads rebuilt. Also replaced my timing belt, pullies, w/p, !!k/s wire!!, and starter. So with that brief description of work done heres my problem:
I am throwing a code 52 (knock sensor) and am wanting to make sure I check everything else before I fork over another couple of hundred dollars for a new k/s. Now it didn't come on at first after I had reassembled my truck, it took about 100 miles or so first. Now it will come on, but ONLY when I give it gas after I start the truck. I have tried clearing the code several times, but it always comes back as soon as I start to hit the gas.
One thing that might be important to know is that I have an air leak with my #6 injector. I have read in another thread that someone had their code 52 fixed by a mechanic who found an air leak in the system. Could the injector be rattling around enough to make the sensor go off?? Oh yes, and vacum in my manifold is good, about 17 Hg.
So does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? Do I just need brake down and sell some blood to buy a new k/s? Thanks in advance guys, you have helped me out a bunch with your website already.

You might try to follow the k/s wire as far down as you can see to make sure it didn't get moved when you put the intake manifold back on & mash it up. Just a thought. Either way, you're looking at about $100 in gaskets even if it's just a wire. Sorry to hear that. That k/s is a PAIN. And it's next to imposiible to find any information on it, except for here. I used to have a '92 pickup v6 & i did the heads without knowing to change the k/s wire. Started getting the code 52 right after I finished it up & turned the key. Ended up spending $100 in gaskets to change the $11 wire.
