This thread had my head spinning the 3 times I read it. Well I am impressed even if I have no feel for what all took place other than the end result. Nice job.

well after reading some of the posts on this thread i think this is the perfect place to ask this question. i have a 3rzfe 2.7L '97 tacoma 5 speed, and i feel as if it just doesn't accel like it should. i just put a new air intake on it and it gave i some low end power and accel but once you leave 2nd you don't notice it to much anymore. i also changed the stock tire size to 31"s and with the throttle flat on the floor it will only run about 80 mph, but before the change it would do every bit of the 100 on the on the gauge. do you guys have any advice? thanks.

I like this R154F 5th gear idea. Anyone have part numbers or a way to order the gears in the US? My 3vze with R150 spends most of it's time on the freeway between 75-80MPH running over 3k. Getting a taller 5th gear and dropping the RPMs on the freeway should really help the MPG.

Right now, 5th seems geared for 65MPH, not 75MPH.

I like the 5th gear idea as well. The main reason keeping me from swapping a 5 speed behind my diesel is because of the OD gearing. The auto is .75:1. Gotta have the low revs for the torque. I could be getting 35mpg or better if I could get some tall gears in it.

Talking

Hey guy's. I am part of the Grand Prix clubs and built a L36/L67 top end swap combo and there is a few guys out there that tune for MPG. One guy is supercharged and get's 38 MPG and still throws down mid 12's in the 1/4 mile. He runs it as lean as he can in closed loop with as much timing as he can with out KR. Or 2* max. One thing you could do is flash in an L26 (04+ 3800 SIII) timing table in your PCM, run some 1.9 ratio rocker arms, port your TB or run a L67 TB and do a VE (speed density) tune then tune your maf. I would also flash in a newer vin like from an 02 GP GT. All this WILL net you some power and MPG. Also I would not recomend going larger than 2.5" ID exhaust or you will be taking some of that low end torque you want, and replacing it with HP on the top end.

This is an awesome project and I will be putting my franken3800 in my 85 runner when the 22re craps out on me.
