fuel rail ticking.

Okay so I was under the hood today trying to track down a squealing noise (ac belt ) And I noticed a ticking. I felt around and it feels the strongest (and is where the noise is comming from) the fuel rail on the number 2 cyl.

question is, what the hell is going on? Is my injector messed up, or what?

sounds like an injector to me. I had the same problem, and all the time I though it was a valve ticking. Turns out, I changed all the injectors while I had it open.

Maby you can try the seafoam treatment to see if it will help at all.

Did it a few months ago through the brake booster.
I guess I would have to do it through the fuel to get into the injectors, but I would prefer not to as my fuel filter is old, I dont want any crap getting disloged and sent into my engine..

Would a bad injector throw a code?
I jumped the termals and there are no stored codes (constant blinking)

Ticking in the injector is normal. I've read about it several times in other threads. Plus, it happens with my motor and the injectors are fine. That's the pulse going through. If it's excessive, there could be a problem. But you can test them with an ohm meter for resistance. Check the FSM for the specs.

Oh, and no it won't throw a code specifically for that. But, if the injector's not working right you may have a mis in the related cylinder. Which would eventually cause a malfunction elsewhere and then throw a code....like the O2 sensor . Then again, it may not throw a code at all! Tricky little bastards.

Well I have never noticed a ticking before so..
But I will keep on drivin her, see if she gets any worse

Too bad it's not a 22re. I've got 4 perfectly good injectors from a 92' 22re, 4cyl. I listed on Ebay for $10. They probably won't sell I'd have been glad to send them & the rail to you for free if they'd have fit your truck. I can't use them in my truck either and I hate to see them just go to waste when they're good injectors. I've also got the complete upper & lower intake sitting here that I can't use for my truck. I'd love to give it all to someone who needs the parts and doesn't have the cash to buy them. They're Denso and the part number on them is 23250-35040. Would it fit yours?
Oh crud-I spoke too soon. I checked to see if there were any bids so I could just close the auction and someone's already bid on them, I'm sorry. I don't think they'd have fit anyway.

Don't toss the injectors, get them ultrasonically cleaned. I'm willing to bet it'll quiet down the ticking as it did for my injectors after having them cleaned.

Mine ticked for as long as I've owned my truck. I had them cleaned this winter as I rebuilt my engine. One of them was sort of dirty and other 3 were in pretty decent shape. After cleaning they all measured equal and good flow. They still tick and it's more noticeable now that the rest of the engine is quieter. I think it's the nature of the injector that they can click. All of mine test electrically good before and after the cleaning. I wouldn't give myself headaches worrying about them. If they fail electrically I don't think there is a ECU trouble code, but you could trigger the Lean/Rich error. They are very simple devices, check the resistance, which doesn't require even removing the fuel system completely. If they check OK electrically, then they could just be dirty or possible just the way they are.
