Fan Clutch: Return from Flex-A-Lite
So as you heard my Flex-A-Lite fan failed me, so I am going back to the stock mechanical fan set up. (It really chaps me at the cost of the electric fan and how little it seems to have helped. I did not note any seat of pants performance gain and its random failure IMHO is totally unwarranted.)
The previous owner had no fan shroud and the fan was somewhat chewed up. Appears these 2nd gen 4runners have mech fans with a habit of self destructing. Anyway, we got a new shroud and fan, but now I come to find the clutch mechanism is leaking. Joy, more $$$. So the factory Toyota part is $180 for the clutch, the O'Reileys/Autozone rebuild with lifetime warranty is $60. Now before I get the standard "Always go Toyota" dogma, has anyone had any experience plus/minus on non-oem clutches?
Thanks,
JJ "Still looking for 500 trouble free miles from my 3.0"
