i've driven trucks locked f/r and i'd have to say turning. personally i'd want both to be selectable.
why'd you lock the front first? just curious, not flaming you.

I figured (and found) that having the front locked helped pull the rig up hills and stuff without spinning tires and losing traction/tearing up hills. The rear will help me on those tight creek crossings at camber where it can push some too.
Steering hasn't been an issue yet, really...

I have ARB's f/r and have found I'm going through PS pumps at a pretty rapid clip....
The reports you hear of CV's/birfs instantaneously exploding when you order the locker are exaggerated IMHO

+1 initially. I've got the lock-rite up front and before it broke in it would lock in turns constantly. After it broke in (or I just abused the snot out of it) it's been working flawlessly. It's amazing what I can crawl up without breaking traction now! And the rear locker----heh.....can't wait for that puppy

you guys talking about turning when off road?
because if you have a front (non selectable) locker and not manual hubs your just crazy. (when it comes to pavement driveing) I love my detroit in the rear.

So I'm crazy? I've been running like this for months, daily driving the rig, with zero issues.

I'm planning on locking the both axles, with powertrax lockers, on my 88 runner, but am planning on putting in a twin stick set up on my Tcase. That way I can putt around the trails in 2wd low on the trails and pop it in 4wd when needed.

Both locked with Aussies for almost a year now. IFS & manual hubs. The only time steering is an issue is when my hubs are locked and I'm in 4Lo on slickrock. The rest of the time it's not an issue. Detroits don't seem to be as "nice" (buck more, don't ratchet as easy??) as the Aussies. There are times I'm glad I don't have an ARB, and and other times I wish I did. A twin stick would probably take care of the times that I wish I did have ARBs.
With the T/C in 2Hi, hubs locked, there's only a little bit that I notice different from running w/o the locker. HTH... |

If your rig has ADD then I don't think the lock-rite would cause any driveability problems when it's not in 4WD.
Being "locked" front and rear is awesome I have non-selectables and you get used to the funny things the rear one does. Get selectables if you have the money and are picky

I'd go manual hubs on the IFS if I didn't have an 85 axle sittin in my garage and some nearly-new Aisin manual hubs for the 85 axle
