Question Exhaust work

I need to replace my muffler to get it to pass smog. Its a 86 4X4 PU with a 22re engine and a 5speed manual. I was wondering what kind of muffler you guys think would be best and tell me whether or not I should just have there whole exhaust upgraded to a bigger size while I'm there.

Thanks

Since you need to replace your muffler, you miswell go ahead and bump your exhaust pipe up to 2.25" for some power increases in the 2000-4000 RPM range, where most people drive. Also don't bother listening to anyones opinion on magnaflow, or flowmaster, basically in short terms they suck, big time. If you like the flowmaster sound, for 30$ Thrush makes a chambered muffler that mimics the sound, chambered mufflers are ALL about sound, not performance, keep that in mind. Also on the other hand, magnaflow and SOME Borla models are basically a 120$ glasspack, thats shiney, and blows out in a few years, you misewell go down to autozone, or whatever and get the longest glasspack you can find, and have someone at a exhaust shop weld the glasspack in with a nice tip if you want, dumped exhaust sounds like total and complete crap, trust me I know I run one, it sounds horrible and vibrates and shakes everything, and drones like a mother f'er. The glasspack oughta be around 20$ if you get a thrush, those are nice... and don't pay more then 150$ for them to weld in 2.25 pipe, you really should search next time cause theres 328474568712589237058917238957345683470568137 threads like this on the same subject but I thought I'd be nice and help out. ALSO I noticed you have smog, SUMMIT RACING sells high flow catalatyic converters for around 120$ in 2.25 sizing, I live in kansas, and I don't run a cat, because I'm broke and see no point in replacing my cat because of my views on society as a whole being a failure, but lets not get into that, without a cat its WAY louder, I reccomend running a good high flow cat you misewell replace it while your down there otherwise your wasting your time if you don't open the whole system up. I reccomend a header also, Doug Thorley sells one on summitracing.com for 320$ for a 22R/22RE that works great, I reccomend that also and you'll have a gnarly sounding truck. I'm not sure but I think I just set the world record on yotatech for the longest post every but I'm seriously bored as freakin hell.

thanks for the advice. Yeah Im not really into the sound of the exhaust as I am it having power. As far as headers go I was planning on making this truck my crawler and dont headers give power in the higher rpm ranger where when crawling you usually need it in the lower??? Just curious.

thanks

if youre doing crawling exhaust isnt gonna matter much considering the fact that youre probably gonna be in L4.. at least thats what ive noticed. mak92-4rn a friend of mine has the v6 with headers and a pretty opened up exhaust system and he does just fine with it.
