I have a 1995 toyota pickup with a rebuild motor in it. To my knowledge the exhaust has never been changed except for the manifold. The motor hesitates every so often what could possible be wrong? O2 sensors , cat converter

there are 'stored' codes which don't throw the CEL but will show up if you hook a reader up to it... so, yes...

Lacking fuel air or spark if hesitating. How long did it sit while the motor was rebuilt?

I'm not for sure maybe a week at the most the rebuilt motor got about 70,000 to 80,000 miles on it and the hesitation happens only every once and a while and when it happens it don't matter how much gas you give the motor it like it has no get up and go then in a few second it goes away and runs fine. the vehicle has no problem passing smog. I've changed the spark plugs and wires and rotor cap recently

I experienced something similar to this a few years ago. For me it was that the oil pump was going out. Not sure why it made that difference, something with pressure. I'd have that checked out.

As stated, yes. So go throw a paperclip between the check connectors and see if any codes are present. Little black box under the hood marked with "Diag." on top of it, next to the bigger black fuse box. The check connectors you're looking for are TE1(T) and E1.

Say what? No, I don't hardly think so.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Because, for one thing, Toyota oil pumps almost never fail without a very good reason. And by "very good reason" I mean running the engine without any oil at all for several hundred miles, and/or with a few pounds of sand in the crankcase. If in an even half-ass maintained engine the oil pump will literally last forever.

And for another, if it starts "going out" or fails altogether, you're not very likely going to have an intermittent hesitation issue. You're going to have some spun bearings(rod and/or crankshaft main), and some significant crankshaft journal wear/scoring, minimally. Which probably will cause some hesitation(if you wanna call it that)eventually, but it won't be the intermittent type. It'll be the permanent type for sure.

So I'm probably going to replace the entire exhaust. what are some people thoughts header exhaust size etc. It is a daily driver and hunting rig i what something to get me a little more power thats not super loud

I like my doug thorley's but they are $$$$$ and you won't see much for gains, maybe 10hp at best... don't waste money on exhaust either, stock exhaust is really not bad at all, it is adequate for sure.

Do an alcohol/water injection setup! completely silent and tons of power AND fuel economy, check out TexasAce's DIY water injection thread, very cheap setup. just my recommendation. I could feel a huge power increase and started getting 50 miles extra on a tank of gas with my first setup (3gph nozzle), trust me you won't be dissapointed with alky injection... it's good for your engine too...

^ I should caveat that statement about the exhaust; a hi -flow muffler would be beneficial, although still not necessary...

Well need to do something with the exhaust due to the age it starting to show black spots on the muffler
