I recently just replaced the water pump on my 4runner. as if u know. u have to remove the timing belt once i removed the timing belt the passenger side camshaft moved very sightly (no more a notch if that). As I put everything together and tried to start it, it would turn but not start. I checked to see if I have a spark and that seems fine. I thought that if it moved that slightly that it would at least start. If anyone can tell me if it could be that or something else and how to fix it (preferably with out going through the timing belt) , I would appreciate it. Thank you, Logan.

First thing you have to do... is make sure your timing belt is on correctly. There is no "close enough" for that step.

There is a mark on both cam sprockets as well as the crank. All marks have to be at 12 O'clock when the belt is installed. Once the belt is on and tensioned, you need to double check that the alignment is correct by manually turning the motor CW at least two full rotations.

If all three points are not at 12 O'clock when you are done... then you need to go back and reset the belt.

If you belt is off even a tooth, within a few rotations your engine will be so out of wack it will never work correctly.

Make sure, of course, that the rotor is pointing at spark terminal #1 whilst the crank and cams are aligned.
