Drive Shaft Problem, clunk clunk (Video)
Ok, last week i finally fixed the motor and got the truck running really good and it past smog yesterday, but last night i pulled into a guess station and when i did i pushed the clutch in and coasted as i made a sharp right turn to park. As i did this i heard clunk clunk about 5 to 6 times, some what jolting the entire truck a little. also does it when i turn left but only when the clutch is in or the truck is out of gear.
Today i got under the truck and saw whats in the video. i guess the center support bearing is out? i can not repeat the noise to its intensity like when i was making the turn. also when its out of gear like in the first video lots of play twisting the drive shaft, when its in gear, not so much? shouldn't there be little to no play in or out of gear? greased them up yesterday thinking that would help but it did not, u can see the xtra grease in the video lol
Out Of Gear!!!

Do you mean the twisting of it? or just the woble and movement of the center bearing? Cause the twisting of it seems to be normal when its in gear, but it should not be moving that much in the center bearing if at all. Think it is just the center bearing? or possible something in the rear end or tranny?

You need new u-joints and that center bearing piece(dont know the name of it) by the looks of it. Now would be a good time to replace all the ones on your yota.

you'll have a little bit of twisting play while it's in gear, that's normal, cause if the gears meshed hard enough to make no play at all, your diff or trans would gernade in no time
and yes, as elblako suggested, U-joints wouldn't be a bead idea at the same time either

if there's one thing I've learned, it's that when dealing with a 15 year old vehicle or older, expect something else to fail just as soon as you fix one thing...
and it'll be something completely unrelated to the last fix...
but it might be small; maybe a headlight or something will burn out, lol
but it never fails... for me anyway... maybe it's just my luck...
after my suspention rebuild last weekend, I'm waiting
