diesel in a '92?
I was wondering what the best diesel motor for a 3rd gen pickup would if i were considering a motor swap. I would really like it to be a six cylinder but i know that space is limited in our trucks. Just lookin for some opinions

idk how much room...or how difficult it would be to do this swap into a 3rd gen...but if i were you i would spend the money..and go for a Cummins 4BT..up to 27mpg.....up to 160hp..400FT LBS OF TORQUE....amazing for a 4cyl...would be a nice engine though...if i ever do a motor swap it will be a Cummins 4BT...

This is going out on limb, but I had a crazy thought. Is there any way the you could mate a Cummins 4BT with, say, a tractor transmission? One with like 8 forward gears and 4 reverse? Always thought that would be the most kick ass setup ever

Search toyotadiesel.com, I think I saw a thread about a 1-ton project....1-ton engine, 1-ton running gear, ect.
EDIT, here's the link. I haven't read the thread so I dont know if its an actual project or not...

By the time it will see any modification as major as this one it'll be an untagged, uninsured off-road only vehicle so I'm not really worried about smog. Plus, Ohio did away with it last year thank god or my truck wouldn't pass it as it sits now

i know that the 4bt cummins can be put into ANY FJ cruizer...idk about the 3rd gens...but my dad and I are thinking about putting a 4bt into my 1st gen P/U...i know it takes a 4in lift just to fit that puppy in there...other than that....its all pretty simple...and turn a few screws...and u can 160 hp..and 400 lb ft of torque...(frame twisting torque for my 1st gen)

I have a Toyota turbo diesel in my 92 pickup. Just finished putting it in last week. Its a 4 cyl turbo diesel. 3.0L. Don't let the 4 cyl thing fool you this thing goes. And is not hard on fuel either. I get about 100 miles before the needle moves off full. I figured it out and I am getting 30 mpg US. And I haven't put the 4.10 gears in it so it is revving too high right now. I got the motor from www.jarcoinc.com . Also this motor was designed to go in the Toyota truck and runners. And if you get the standard tranny they came with the R150. So you could use yours but would just need to change the bellhousing. The motor I have runs great and has lots of power. Much better than the 3vze my dad has. And mine is an auto. And the 3 inch straight pipe right from the turbo sounds pretty mean. Not noisey but just mean.
